These two-tone Yew buttons are individually hand-turned to make the most of the natural contrast within the wood. Each button is positioned across the boundary between the pale sapwood and the rich golden-brown heartwood, creating a distinctive split of colour without stains or dyes.
Yew is one of my favourite woods to work with. Its colour and grain can vary dramatically within a very small piece, meaning no two buttons will ever be exactly alike. Some will have a clean division between light and dark wood, while others may show sweeping grain, growth rings and subtle changes in tone.
Each button is turned, drilled, sanded and finished by hand in my New Forest workshop. The smooth, rounded face and two sewing holes make them a beautiful finishing detail for handmade cardigans, jumpers, accessories and other textile projects.

Each pack contains six buttons in your chosen size.
The current listing photographs show the 20mm buttons. The smaller sizes are made in the same two-tone style, but the balance of pale and dark wood will naturally vary from button to button.

The Yew used for these buttons is sourced through a local tree surgeon rather than bought as prepared button blanks. Every button is made from real wood and will have its own grain, colour and character.
For cleaning, give the buttons a quick cool hand wash when necessary. Avoid prolonged soaking, harsh detergents and high heat.
